HEALTH PRECAUTIONS
Health Precautions
Your health and safety are extremely important to us. While every possible precaution is taken to ensure a safe and comfortable safari, we recommend that all guests consult their doctor or travel clinic before departure, especially if they have any existing medical conditions or require prescription medication.
Malaria
All of our hunting areas in the Free State, Northern Cape, and Eastern Cape are malaria-free.
For our Mozambique concession and Greater Kruger area, malaria precautions are recommended. Guests travelling to these regions should consult their doctor or travel clinic well before departure and consider a prescribed malaria prophylaxis.
General Medical Advice
Please ensure that your tetanus vaccination is up to date before travelling. We also recommend bringing enough prescription medication for the full duration of your safari, plus a few extra days in case of travel delays.
All our hunting vehicles, camps, and lodges are equipped with basic first aid supplies for minor field injuries. However, guests should still bring any personal medication they may require.
Insects, Ticks & Sun Protection
Depending on the season and area, guests may encounter ticks, mosquitoes, and other insects. We recommend bringing a quality insect repellent, preferably containing DEET.
The African sun can be strong, even during winter. Please bring sunscreen of at least SPF 30, sunglasses, a hat, and lip balm.
Travel & Medical Insurance
We strongly recommend that all guests travel with comprehensive medical and travel insurance, including emergency evacuation cover. Some of our hunting areas are remote, and having the correct insurance provides valuable peace of mind throughout your safari.
Grootvallei African Safaris cannot accept liability for injury, illness, loss, or damage during or after your safari. Medical evacuation and treatment costs remain the responsibility of the traveller.
